Terms and Conditions
As part of Converge, Sparkathon is a retail and tech solution showcase where students get to present their ideas to Walmart and industry leaders. Students submit their ideas across four broad themes related to retail tech, and the shortlisted teams will get to pitch their ideas to an expert jury panel. The expert jury panel will give valuable feedback to these teams and pick a top student team amongst those that are shortlisted. Student teams may get an opportunity to interview for an internship or full-time roles with WM Global Technology Services India Private Limited (“Walmart Global Tech India” or “Walmart”) as well as exciting gifts.
The term for Sparkathon will be from June 5, 2025 to August 29, 2025. Registrations for Sparkathon will open on June 5, 2025 and will close on July 14, 2025 (end of business day). Winners will be announced during Converge scheduled on August 29, 2025. Participation in Sparkathon will be governed by the following terms and conditions: -
- Sparkathon is open to all engineering college student teams within India from the below listed branches (Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Math, Data Science and AI)
- Undergraduate, master’s or dual degree engineering students, graduating in the year 2027 who achieve first, second, or third place at Sparkathon will have the opportunity to interview for an internship at Walmart
- Undergraduate, dual degree or master’s degree engineering students, graduating in the year 2026 who achieve first, second, or third place at Sparkathon will have the opportunity to interview for a full-time role at Walmart
- Please note that there is no obligation on the part of Walmart to offer internship or employment to students. Walmart is only offering an opportunity for an interview subject to meeting the eligibility criteria
- Each student team can comprise of a maximum of four students and a minimum of two students. There cannot be any modification of the team members, and each team is expected to finish Sparkathon with the people they started with
- Walmart’s judging committee’s decision will be based on a comprehensive evaluation framework designed exclusively for Sparkathon. All decisions taken will be final and shall solely rest with the Walmart committee judging the event
- Plagiarism means passing off someone else's work or ideas as your own or simply taking credit. Any person found plagiarizing will be disqualified and his/her submission will be disregarded by Walmart’s judging committee
- There are four themes on the Sparkathon website, and participants should choose any one of these themes
- Walmart reserves the sole right to accept or reject any submission at its discretion
- Employees of Walmart or partners collaborating with Walmart for Converge shall not be eligible to participate in Sparkathon
- Intellectual Property - Except as stated otherwise, all rights, title, and interest in and to its intellectual property created and owned by either party prior to the Sparkathon event shall reside with the respective party. The participant (i.e. student) shall not acquire any right or interest over Walmart’s intellectual property (“Walmart IPR”) by virtue of participating in the Sparkathon event and shall not use Walmart IPR, in any manner whatsoever, except based on the prior written consent of Walmart. However, the participant understands that Walmart may use or leverage all or any part of the intellectual property developed by the participant(s) (“participant IPR”) for Walmart’s internal and commercial purpose(s). It is further agreed and clarified between Walmart and participants that Walmart may, in future, develop or purchase products or services related to or like the subject matter of participant IPR disclosed during and as part of the Sparkathon event by the participant. Accordingly, Walmart may use the participant IPR for any purpose, including use in acquisition, development, manufacture, promotion, sale or maintenance of products and services.
Participant hereby grants
Walmart a royalty free, perpetual, limited license to use the participant IPR for Walmart’s own internal and commercial purposes. Intellectual property warranty- participant represents and warrants that (i) the intellectual property rights that the participant has developed does not and will not contain or use any computer programs, data, work, designs, materials, technology or other information that infringes the rights of, or misappropriates the property of, any entity or person and (ii) there is no action, suit, arbitration, proceeding or claim pending or, to its knowledge, threatened against participant which may adversely affect participant’s rights, licenses and privileges granted under this agreement. For the purpose of this clause, “Intellectual Property Rights” or “IPR” means any and all right, title and interest, arising or existing as of the effective date or at any time thereafter, anywhere in the world, including, but not limited to, all patent, patent registration, copyright, trademark, trade name, service mark, service name, trade secret or other proprietary right arising or enforceable under any united states federal or state law, rule or regulation, non-United States law, rule or regulation or international treaty in any technology, system, invention, discovery, knowhow process, method, information, medium or content, including, but not limited to, text, print, pictures, photographs, video, marks, logos, designs, drawings, artistic and graphical works, music, speech, computer software and documentation, any other works of authorship and any form, method or manner of expression or communication now known or hereinafter becoming known. - Confidentiality - During the validity of the term 'Sparkathon', either Party may receive or have access to technical information, as well as information about product plans and strategies, promotions and related non-technical business information which the disclosing Party considers to be confidential ("Confidential Information"). In the event of such Confidential Information being disclosed, the Parties shall first agree to disclose and receive such information in confidence. If then disclosed, the Confidential Information shall be marked as confidential at the time of disclosure, or if disclosed orally but stated to be confidential, shall subsequently be designated as confidential in writing by the Disclosing Party summarizing the
Confidential Information disclosed and sent to the receiving Party within a reasonable period of time. The obligations stated in this section shall not apply to any information that is:
- Already known by the Receiving Party prior to disclosure;
- Publicly available through no fault of the Receiving Party;
- Rightfully received from a third party without a duty of confidentiality;
- Disclosed by the Disclosing Party to a third party without a duty of confidentiality on such third party;
- Independently developed by the Receiving Party prior to or independent of the disclosure;
- Disclosed under operation of law; and
- Disclosed by the Receiving Party with the Disclosing Party's prior written approval.
Privacy Policy
The information provided by you will enable us to
provide services that are related to the virtual event, Converge, scheduled on August 29, 2025. By providing this information, you hereby consent to allow Walmart to collect, use, and disclose
the information provided in the manner and for the purpose stated above. The information collected will be
retained for the purpose of the above event and also for any hiring opportunities or future events that may
arise or as may be required by any applicable law. We want to assure you that wherever your information is
